Researchers: Getting Close To Finding HIV Vaccine

Researchers in Spain Wednesday announced the development of a prototype vaccine against HIV, the virus that causes aids.

At a news conference in Madrid, researchers said after showing a high level of efficiency in mice and monkeys, testing began in humans a year ago. Of the subjects receiving the vaccine, 95-percent developed bodily defenses and managed to stimulate both the production of cells and antibodies. The next round of tests will be on volunteers already infected with HIV to see if it can be used to treat aids as well as prevent it.
