Report: Santorum Won Iowa By 34 Votes

The Des Moines Register newspaper reports Rick Santorum beat Mitt Romney by 34 votes in the Iowa Caucuses. Romney was declared the initial winner earlier this month, by just eight votes.

Republican Party of Iowa officials are set to release certified vote totals from the Jan. 3 caucuses, the closest outcome in the event's history. The announcement was scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday.

The Des Moines Register says some of the votes from the precincts will never be certified. "There are too many holes in the certified totals from the Iowa caucuses to know for certain who won, but Rick Santorum wound up with a 34-vote advantage," the paper reported Thursday.

Romney is currently leading the polls in South Carolina, where voters will go to the polls on Saturday.
