The Secretary of Defense will dedicate the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Thursday.
The refurbished naval hopsital in Bethesday, Md. will be renamed after the old Walter Reed Army Medical Center closed in August.
A new facility will also open in Fort Belvoir, Va. The two locations will have nearly 500 beds. All branches of the military will be responsible for running the hospital.
Army Major Walter Reed was best known for his work to confirm that mosquitoes caused yellow fever.
