DUBLIN, Calif. (AP) -- MC Hammer suggests he's the victim of racial profiling after his arrest Thursday night.

50-year-old Stanley Kirk Burrell, famously known as MCHammer, tweets he was sitting in his car at a shopping center in Dublin, California, when an officer tapped on his window and asked him, "Are you on parole or probation?" Hammer has not had any public run-ins with the law.

Hammer says as he handed over his ID, the officer tried to pull him out through the window.

The Oakland Tribune reports Hammer was arrested for investigation of obstructing an officer and resisting an officer. A Dublin police spokesman says police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident.

The hip-hop icon says he's not bitter but calls it "a teachable moment."

Hammer showed up to San Quentin Prison the next day -- but that's because he works there as a mentor.
