Legal Wrangling Ahead In Michigan Porch Shooting Case

A 19-year-old woman was fatally shot in the face on the porch of a suburban Detroit home before the sun came up.

The way Renisha McBride's young life ended Nov. 2 is not in dispute.

Much else about the case, however, is not clear-cut.

Police and prosecutors say Theodore Wafer fired through his screen door at McBride.

The 54-year-old airport maintenance employee faces murder and manslaughter charges. He's free on bail ahead of a Dec. 18 hearing that will determine if the case should go to trial.

Cooley Law School professor Ron Bretz says the case may boil down to what a reasonable person would do in the circumstance.

That may be the key question in determining Wafer's guilt or innocence, but much else is left unknown about the case.
