House Leaders Accept Senate Tax Terms

GOP aides say House Republican leaders have agreed to a two-month extension of Social Security payroll tax cuts and federal unemployment benefits.

The move reflects a retreat by House Republicans and appears to all but assure 160 million workers aren't hit by a 2 percentage point increase in the payroll tax on Jan. 1.

House leaders were to brief rank-and-file lawmakers on the proposal on a conference call later Thursday.

As for Husseins legislative accomplishments. To paraphrase Dean Wormer of the Animal House movie. " Dishonest, socialist and corruption is no way to govern, son ". Obama, Pelosi and Reid pushed through, manipulated, and bought votes to ram through ObamaCare even though the vast majority of Americans screamed in protest. The nearly $1 trillion non-Stimulus bill was used to pay off Democrat cronies and corrupt labor unions. What about the billions wasted on so-called green energy fiascos! Because of lobbist. The only legislative accomplishments Obama has overseen are the bills he’s NOT signing when he’s playing a bad golf!

Instead of cutting government spending to fund the payroll tax cut extension they will be gutting even more money from the Social Security trust fund. More short term fixes from from Obama and the Democrats.

You would hope the Repugs would learn something from this but that is probably too much to ask. Come next year they are going to get a chance to "work out a deal" on the extension for a year as they said they wanted to. We'll see, won't we. I predict more for the rich and less for the rest from the Repugs next year. Just a wild guess on my part.

I guess some of you folks coveniently forget that the democrats controlled the House, Senate and the presidencey for two years and deliberately failed to pass a budget so Obama, Reid and Pelosi could borrow and spend without any restraints what-so-ever. Obama ran up a deficit of over five trillion dollars in his first three years in office. The republicans passed a budget but Reid refused to let the Senate vote on it and the proposed budget Obama submitted was so outrageous that all of the republicans and a majority of the democrats voted against it. This president is deliberately trying to bankrupt this country and some of you can't see through his tactics of "class warfare". He can't run on any of his accomplishments because the majority of what he has gotten past the House and Senate are programs most Americans are against. In addition, he has effectively shut down oil exploration in our country and made the U.S. more dependent on the Arabs, has enacted statutes through his lackeys at the Environmental Protecive Agency that are destroying American jobs, is now in the process of shutting down all coal powered electric generating plants which will result in the loss of jobs for thousands of coal miners and higher utility bills for everyone and is trying to force American to buy electric cars that nobody wants because they can only go forty miles before having to be recharged. To top it all off this socialist demagogue had the audacity to rank himself among the five greatest presidents in our history.

Very well said Ben. Now the democrats who spew all the hate on this site will come back with liberal media nonsense trying to spin the FACTS that you post to meet their socialist agendas. Thank you for proving that there are still a few on this site that truly have intelligence and common sense. Merry Christmas!!

Such BS politics by our President. If this is so great why not do it for a whole year like the Republicans wanted to? Politics. There is no other excuse or reason why. He has to nit-pick and win every little battle he can to make his minions feel good about themselves.

I'm still disappointed the media didn't say nearly enough about all the poison pills the GOP stuffed into that Christmas turkey. The way they're reporting it, it was just a contest of wills over whether to do a 2-month extension of the payroll tax holiday or a full year's extension of the payroll tax holiday. Nothing about the cutback in unemployment benefits, the gutting of environmental regulations, the heavy-handed manipulation of the Keystone pipeline decision, etc., etc. But this is better than nothing.

Everyone could see that the GOP is bought and paid for by the Koch Brothers. You can always count on the republicans... to sh00t themselves in the foot...or one of their buddies in the face.

I don't believe I have ever witnessed such selfish behavior. This isn't 'politics'; it's kid stuff and very stupid behavior. Maybe if we said a prayer for them...who knows what might would happen.

What you couldn't see during Boehner's surrender speech was Eric Cantor standing behind him twisting the knife. Unless our "legislature" denounces the anti-american pledges they have signed, throw Norquist into the dogpound where he belongs, and come clean? our country will never move ahead..I am OUTRAGED that members of MY govt sign pledges that "I"..the american citizen never had the opportunity tod WHEN I ELECT YOU? I should get to review every da-m shady deal or pledge you sign..that includes the "anti-woman,anti-LGBT and Pro-man and woman pledges" you hacks sign.....I EMPLOY YOU,,NOT NORQUIST AND NOT EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS..2012 cant come soon enough..you will be O U T..
