The Department of Homeland Security's United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team has a warning about Java on your computer.
An alert on the Homeland Security’s CERT webpage states: “Java 7 Update 10 and earlier contain an unspecified vulnerability that can allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.”
The release goes on to state a hacker may be able to access computers that have Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
It also notes “applications that use the Internet Explorer web content rendering components, like Microsoft Office or Windows Desktop Search, may also be used as an attack vector for this vulnerability” and that “Oracle Java 7 update 10 and earlier are affected.”
The Homeland Security computer team reports “we are currently unaware of a practical solution to this problem” and provides the workaround of disabling Java in web browsers.
