The youngest actor to be nominated for an Oscar is dead.
One of Jackie Cooper's sons says his father died Tuesday at a nursing facility in Santa Monica, Calif.
Jackie Cooper seemed eternally young, with his boyish looks and thick head of blond hair. He received the Oscar nod at age 9 for the lead role in "Skippy," which took the popular comic strip character to the big screen.
During his career, Cooper directed more than 250 half-hour and hour-long series episodes, 16 two-hour movies and numerous pilots and commercials. At one point, he vowed he would never act again. But he returned for an occasional role, most notably as gruff Daily Planet editor Perry White in Christopher Reeves' four "Superman" movies.
Russell Cooper described his father as "a fascinating guy who really did everything."
