For Romney, A New Strategy After A Santorum Surge

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is casting himself as a strict conservative as he looks to reset his campaign following three losses to rival Rick Santorum.

The former Massachusetts governor has spent this campaign focusing on his business credentials and downplaying ideology. Four years ago he failed to win the GOP nomination by running as a social conservative.

Romney's campaign says his speech Friday to the Conservative Political Action Committee was a chance for Romney to speak directly to the conservatives who rejected him in three contests last Tuesday.

The speech represents a full-throated insistence that Romney is conservative in both record and background. Romney is seeking to send that message as he struggles to convince the GOP's skeptical right flank that he's acceptable as the party's nominee.

Wake up folks! Look up the education mandates and public mandates enforced with the repeal of the marriage ammendment under Romney as governor of Massechusettes. It is deplorable what the public schools are forced to teach students. Every aspect of society has been affected there. Romeny has you fooled if you think he is a conservative. He is far from it. Don't take my word for it-look up the record yourself and get involved at your state level to see what is the truth.

Glad to see someone out there has enough smarts to look something up rader believing everything they hear on all three network news channels and late night shows, who, are trying to steer votes. Sadly it seems that most of the folk that post on this site are to lazy to reseach and look up the true facts, and argue points that they don't know what they talking about. With the Internet at their fingers tips they stiil believe lie from the money machine that supports Mitt. I not saying Newt is the one but there been a lot of lies in ads that weren't true. Beacause they hear them on the Boob Tube they think its the gospel.Mitt and his suporters are trying to buy the White House. And can't believe all the folk out there who think he's paying taxes on his money in off shore accounts because his campaign manager said he was, they're clueless. They refuse to look at the record of the pass three years and still want to blame Bush. All the problems in the houseing market won't cause by Bush, it was their golden boy Bill who created this mess. Look it up folks. I wholeheartly agree with you Rep.Woman, Folks need to wake up and learn the facts, and soon.

.005 percent of the registered voters in Maine turned out to give Romney a resounding victory. Well if the Voter Turn out shows how much the American People are behind these Candidates... It is easily an President Obama Win !!!

Mittens will be whatever anyone wants him to be. If you don't believe him, he'll spend more money until you do. His new strategy will be, the same as his old strategy, to slime anybody that gets close to him. Sick Santorum, you are next!

5500 people TOTAL voted in a state of 1.3 million. And this is supposed to be statistically important to the rest of us?

Romney: 120 delegates and $57M in Fundraising. Santorum: 72 delegates and $2.2M in Fundraising. I'm not a math genius but I don't think Romney's really getting a bang for his buck.

At a gathering in Portland, state Republican Chairman Charlie Webster announced Romney had won with 2,190 votes compared to 1,996 for Paul, the only other candidate to aggressively compete in the state. Rick Santorum received 989 votes and Newt Gingrich won 349, but neither actively campaigned there.

I'm sure it's nicer to be #1 or #2 than #3 or #4, but in a caucus where less than 1/2 of 1% of the state's population participated, what if anything does it say about Romney's or Paul's chances against Obama?

"I thank the voters of Maine for their support," Romney said in a statement late Saturday. "I'm committed to turning around America. And I'm heartened to have the support of so many good people in this great state." The 2190 votes Romney got in Maine should make him a shoe-in for the Whitehouse. Why he would want to turn American around into the opposite direction is beyond me. We're heading into the right direction right now. America's job engine is just starting to rev up. Why go back to the practices that almost brought America to ruins?

Lesson from 2004 (which your party has ignored, FYI): you cannot beat something, not even a bad something, with nothing...which is a good summation of the entire GOP nomination field.
