Texting and making phone calls mid-flight has been banned for some 20 years. It's a result of belief that signals will interfere with stations on the ground.
As technology develops, officials say that interference is no longer a threat.
The Federal Communications Commission is now considering the idea of lifting the technology ban.
Beginning Wednesday, fliers can let the FCC know where they stand on the issue. Some 400 comments have already been submitted.
If technology on flights gets the green light, each airline carrier will implement or deny the ruling.
Delta Air Lines has already decided against this, while Jet Blue and Southwest say they're open to the idea.
