Authorities: Man Set Home On Fire With Children Inside

Authorities say the husband of a missing Utah woman intentionally set his home in Graham, Washington on fire Sunday, producing a scorching blaze that killed him and his two children.

Neighbors had reported hearing an explosion, but Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said Josh Powell's home was destroyed by a fast-moving fire that blew out several windows and was aided by some sort of accelerant.

A social worker had brought the two boys to the house for what was to be a supervised visit, and Powell let his sons inside -- but then blocked the social worker from entering, according to fire officials.

The social worker called her supervisors to report that she could smell gas. Moments later, the home erupted in flames.

I've heard the children were also found to have suffered hatchet wounds, after he pulled them into the home, before he ignited it. This man was truly crazed. Now, those Grandparents must sift through all that remains to find answers. May God Bless them. There won't be any justice this time, except God's justice. Too sad.

Seen this story a while back, sure looks like it was him. Really? How many people would take those little kids camping at around midnight in cold weather on MONDAY night? What a shame this is. Maybe DSS will learn something out of this and how to deal with visitations of children to parents suspected of murder. No visits allowed in the home, supervised or not until everyone DSS and LEO and the court systems are satisfied he's not the one. Visit at the local sheriffs office or other LEO agency. Scanned coming in and patted at the airports, shoes off too. Maybe we won't lose anymore children like this. Prayers for those grandparents that lost a daughter and now those two children.

and to all the lawyers who fought for this "father's rights" to see his children, wish you could have been in the house instead of the babies.

Mom went missing. If he hadn't killed her she wouldn't be the first woman to run oft. Still, you'd think they could find some reason to keep the kids from him until it was known if the kids were safe around him. I'd hate to be that social worker right now. Can't blame him/her, just doing the job according to guidelines.

I've followed this story from the beginning. 48 Hours Mystery had a special on it that I just watched again the other day. There is so much to this story, not just with the husband, but with his dad (who is suspected to have helped with Michelle's murder), it's the most bizzare story I've read in a while. It's such a terrible ending for these two children. I've read his motive for doing this had to do with the oldest son talking about what he saw the night his mother died. Bless the surviving grandparents- they must be devestated.

why don't you get some class? people are making comments here. if you are not capable of making a comment instead of just coming on and insulting people, go to another site. Your comments are rude, nasty, and show what kind of person you are, but definitely show that you have no intelligence by your lack of class!

Gee whiz "uhhh wrong story", she has the correct story, just got the name wrong (Michelle instead of Susan). I can see where that would be easy to do if you've been following both cases. I am very concerned for Michelle Parker's children also. Just lighten up, you don't have to be so nasty because someone mixed up a name.

It's reported that the oldest child started talking about mommy in the trunk when they went "camping". Guess he had to get rid of the witnesses....what a low life. It is not over for him yet, he'll have to answer for 3 murders.

The system sure let those poor children down. Their father was obviously sick in the head, real bad.
