Afghan Shootings Force Callback Of US, NATO Ministers

For the first time in the decade-long war in Afghanistan, the top commander of the U.S. and NATO forces has recalled all international ministers from Afghan ministries.

This is in reaction to the killing of two American military advisers Saturday inside a heavily guarded ministry building.

Violence has sprung up in the wake of protests in Afghanistan over the burning of copies of the Quran at a U.S. army base.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack at the Interior Ministry, saying it was retaliation for the Quran burnings. The two U.S. officers were a lieutenant colonel and major, and Afghan and Western officials say they were found dead on their office floor.

Western officials speaking on grounds of anonymity say the two American officers were shot in the back of the head.

A Taliban spokesman has identified the shooter as one of their sympathizers. He says an accomplice inside the ministry helped him get inside the compound.

The Pentagon says the Afghan defense minister has called U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to apologize for the shooting and offer his condolences.

let me get this straight, the prisoners try to pass messages in "the book", we confiscate and burn "the book" and they get mad and kill us, and "the man" apologizes. sounds right to me.

Amen brother, turn the whole country to glass and I guarantee no one will miss then, what do they offer the world other than oil, nothing. The oil will just have a little more kick in it with some radiation in the after math.

They really don't produce much of anything except heroin. The SEALS accomplished the goal of killing Usama Bin Laden. We should declare victory and bring the troops home to prepare for the next war.

you are so right, ME, they don't deserve our help and they certainly to want it either. They want to kill people for someone burning their Holy Book, they don't even have religious freedom. They behead people just for not agreeing with them. I really think they should be left alone to fight among themselves. If their citizens do not agree, maybe they should stand up against the government or they can always leave and live somewhere else.

This is so wrong. We should bring our troops home and let the fools in afghan kill them selves. There is no helping them and they don't deserve our help much less the loss of American lives.

Agree with you totally. Will say it is even more wrong that our officials are running all over the place appologizing, and not to the families of those killed.
