Adele Is Top Winner With 6 Grammys

Adele has emerged as the top winner at Sunday's Grammy Awards, winning six trophies including the prestigious trifecta of record, song and album of the year.

The singer, who also made a triumphant comeback from vocal cord surgery on the Grammy stage, sobbed as she won the night's final award, album of the year, for "21." It was last year's top-selling album with more than six million copies sold and remains lodged at the No. 1 spot on this year's charts.

Her victories tied her with Beyonce as the most wins by a woman in one evening.

The celebration of Adele came on a night where the Grammys marked the loss of one of music's great female voices, and one of its most prized talents overall. Whitney Houston died the night before the Grammys, casting a shadow over music's biggest night.

But while her death lent a somber overtone to the evening's show, it did not overwhelm it.

The night's other big winners were Grohl's Foo Fighters, who won five Grammys. They noted that they made their album "Wasting Light" in a garage.

Adele most certainly deserved every grammy she won! I just love her voice! I have her debut cd "19" with "Chasing Pavements", love every song on that album/cd! Some of today's music is mess, with a few exceptions!!

Have to say that she does have a great voice, but again; hope she isn't exploited by those who are profiting from her recording sales. Just look at what happened to Whitney; Hollywood is all about money; nothing more.

She's still terrible, just like most mainstreet pop music. It baffles me that an album with an average score of around 3.5/5 can be considered the best album of the year.

I am a huge critic of pop music, I truly hate it, but this woman can sing.

I listened to her performance, and she does have a strong, gifted voice; just hope she isn't exploited like so many before her, say like Whitney Houston. If she can avoid the cheap trappings of the music industry, she can go far. First thing most agents want is to make her thin and vamp her up. What they SHOULD do is let her sing in her natural state. Hope she knows she has that option; great example is Alison Krauss.

You are right about that, she is no Whitney "Huston" or Whitney Houston either! Adele is better. Adele is a winner, Houston was a loser. Adele was at the Grammies, Houston was at the morgue.

Did she win because she's that good or was it a sympathy vote? I just wonder.

First off, the Grammys' don't do sympathy votes. Secondly, one doesn't have to look like a supermodel to have extrordinary talent. That is what Hollywood would like you to think. That is not reality. And thirdly, most talented people come from rough backgrounds. She is not an exception.

You're right, they don't do sympathy votes, they give out awards for the most popular music, not the best music. Nothing against Adele, or any of the grammy winners really, but the music is terrible, and the people who vote on it have terrible taste. There were at the vest least 50 albums infinitly more deserving, and thousands of songs more deseriving to win, or Hell, for the matter to even be nominated that will never see the light of day. You may ask youself why, and sadly I cannot give you a reasonable answer. People are stupid and have terrible taste I suppose.
