Study: Millions Of Cancer Survivors Put Off Care

A new study suggests that millions of cancer survivors have put off getting medical care because they couldn't afford it.

The researchers estimate that more than 2 million of 12 million U.S. adult cancer survivors did not get one or more needed medical services.

The work was based on national surveys that included 6,600 cancer survivors. About 8 percent of the cancer survivors said they had put off getting medical care because of costs. About 10 percent also said they had to forgo filling prescriptions.

The study was released online Monday by an American Cancer Society medical journal.

There is no miracle cancer cure, no. There are treatments (which improve all the time) and they have varying degrees of effectivenes. It depends on the type of cancer, the progression of it, the overall health of the individual, their support system and personal determination, and a fair portion of luck and prayer. If there were a magic pill, we'd all know about it.

My husband is a cancer survivior, and we have insurance. He has to pick and choose which appointments he attends. Between the surgery and chemo, our savings is gone. While we both work, it will still take years to pay off our part of the bills that the insurance didn't cover. We are thankful everyday for his health. With every new visit comes more bills. I completely understand, the why of it.

Pathetic ! We give so much money to other countries..yet, our own people are without health care necessities. Shouldn't we take care of our own BEFORE taking care of everybody else's back yard?
