Hurricane Season Starts Tuesday

The 2010 hurricane season starts on Tuesday, and officials with NOAA are anticipating a very active period.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is projecting between 14 and 23 named storms, eight to 14 hurricanes, and three to seven major hurricanes. This year's outlook exceeds the seasonal average of 11 named storms, six hurricanes, and two major hurricanes.

If the projections hold true this year could be one of the more active seasons on record.

Last week Governor Bev Perdue asked citizens to update their family emergency plans and supply kits for a hurricane.

Hurricane season lasts from June 1st through November 30th.

After almost 30 years of building high voltage powerlines and going on stormtrouble, I usually don't agree with the farmers almanac or noaa. This year I have a bad feeling they will be correct. I suggest each person prepares for this coming season and pray that I'm wrong. I pray that I'm wrong. Good luck and God Bless
