At Least 10 Killed On Israeli Raid On Turkish Flotilla Bound For Gaza

The Israeli military says more than 10 pro-Palestinian activists have been killed in a raid on an aid flotilla heading toward the blockaded Gaza Strip, but the two sides offer conflicting accounts.

A reporter on one of the boats says the Israelis fired at the vessel before boarding it. The Israelis say they only opened fire after being attacked by activists, one of whom grabbed a serviceman's weapon.

The army says dozens of people were wounded, including four troops.

The operation in international waters was a nightmare scenario for Israel. It could further damage Israel's international standing, strain already tense relations with Turkey and draw unwanted attention to Gaza's plight.

Israel had offered to transfer the aid to Gaza from an Israeli port.

Officials say the ships are being towed to Israel and the wounded have been evacuated by helicopter.

Sorry, Derek, I've been out of town. Anyway, discounting an article because the person is Jewish. That type of thought process sucks. That's like saying a African American writing about slavery shouldn't be counted because he or she is black. Truthfully, I could go on with a few different examples of that thinking but I believe you to be intelligent enough to understand this is faulty thinking, "funny how the author is of Israeli descent". One of the reasons I discount info is because of lack of documented support not the author's race or nationality.

http://www.usslibertyveterans.org/ - I figured the people who were actually on the ship and survived probably know a bit more than the government on what happened that day, wouldn't you agree? How can a US naval ship also be confused as an Egyptian navel ship? http://www.rense.com/general39/pilot.htm - government cover-up, you betcha! In regards to your huffington post article, funny how the author is of Israeli descent. Would you cite an article claiming 9/11 never happened if it was written by someone of Saudi descent? Even NPR does not give a fair view of Palestine, another typically liberal news organization.

Derek, here's an article for you and this link carries a certain irony to it as it is from the Huffington Post which historically contains an extreme liberal slant. However, this article is very much on point: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alan-dershowitz/the-phony-war-crimes-accu_b_160050.html. So I would say look at all the facts not just propaganda sites. And Derek you tell me why we found the USS Liberty incident to be an official accident? You wanna second guess your gov't now because...why?

Derek, the way you present your case against Israel is as if they were never provoked in these instances. As far as them attacking the Gaza Strip a few years back Hamas was pretty busy doing some bombing of their own. Israel didn't just wake up 1 day and say let's bomb the Gaza. Israel will always be found to be the instigator. Which in itself is totally amazing considering how much of a minority Israel is in that part of the world....surrounded by enemies. You don't know what supplies the palestinians are provisioning themselves with via tunnels. Additionally, the USS Liberty incident was considered an accident. You desire to believe all the negative press about Israel while not looking at any of the media that defends there actions...look that up.

11:30 post - why are they hated? because they bulldoze palestinian apartments at night time we the people are sleeping inside and erect fences, pushing their 'territory' further into palestinian land. Also, Israel continues to break international law, don't you remember they invaded the Gaza strip a few years ago? Palestinians reacted. Israel was found to be the instigator of that conflict. 12:30 post- are you sure the palestinians are surviving in the strip? Prove to me they are and I will admit I am wrong. But otherwise, why do the palestinians dig tunnels to get supplies? if they are surviving well enough, why do people risk their lives to deliver aid to them? ifamericansknew.org - check it out. Explain to me why the US did nothing after the attack on the USS Liberty, isn't attacking another nation's navy an act of war? Well, thats what the Israelis did to the US. Israel still the victim here?

Derek what is the point of that link? Anytime there is conflict there are going to be hapless victims. Do you remember how long we urged embargo against Iran? I'm sure Palestinians are surviving well enough on the Strip. If they were not, well, heartless as it may sound there would be no need for supplies would there? The battle that rages in this area cannot be viewed without a religious tone or foundation. That is what the battles have been about muslims verses Jews. Do you know the history? I mean the real history religions cannot be ignored as a factor.

Question Derek have you viewed any of the footage that was taken as the Israelis boarded the vessel? One can plainly see that they are being beaten with metal pipes and dumped over the side. Okay, so when was it okay for the Israelis to defend themselves? Israel is the only country in the world that has to answer to EVERY nation about its doings. They are chastised and treated like heathens for wanting to build apartments on their own land. Why is that Derek? Why are they so hated and under the microscope about their every move?

http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=33334&Cr=gaza&Cr1 - probably why Gaza needed those supplies to begin with.
  • by Derek Location: Greenville on May 31, 2010 at 06:43 PM
my point? its quite clear - everyone jumps to defend Israel without understanding what is happening to the Palestinians living in the Gaza strip. Israel is never at fault, right anon at 7:38?
