Dems Scale Back Bill To Woo Votes For Jobless Aide

Democrats are struggling to extend jobless benefits before they go on vacation next week.

Some lawmakers are concerned they'll be hammered over deficit spending even though the money is for the unemployed.

House leaders hope to vote today on a bill that would extend the benefits through November, but they are running into opposition from Republicans and some Democrats concerned about the cost of the overall bill.

Democratic leaders have cut the cost of the legislation by more than $50 billion -- to about $140 billion -- in an attempt to pick up votes. The bill would add about $84 billion to the budget deficit.

The benefits are among the unfinished business lawmakers hope to complete before their Memorial Day recess.

We actually have our first anti-American President. He, and the dems, have every interest in destroying the country. And they seem to be doing it with great joy. They will not be happy until they have destroyed every company and every job. People can now get jobless benefits for 3 years!! We have a $13 trillion debt. He has added double the debt in one and a half years than Bush did in 8 years. 10% unemployment. Things were better when we were near "the edge of the worst economy since the Great Depression!" Remember when the dems were telling everyone how bad the economy was under Bush when we had 5% unemployment and a 14,000 stock market? Wow. Those Bush days were really terrible.

I wish the older people who are Democrats really understood that this Party is the total opposite of what they stood for 40 years ago. I know. My whole family was Dem. back then.I still stand up for Values and God but not as a Demo.

You hit the nail on the head Mom22. The census will be over soon too, so there will be more jobs going away.

TV this morning said the jobless rate has fallen, I am not so sure, but could it actually be that the jobless have run out of benefits and therefore are no longer filing claims? Just a thought.
