Lawmakers Agree To Extend Unemployment Benefits

Lawmakers have agreed on legislation to extend expanded unemployment benefits for the long-term unemployed through the end of the year. Laid off workers would also continue to get subsidies to buy health insurance through the COBRA program.

House and Senate leaders announced the deal Thursday morning on a bill that would also extend, for a year, about 50 popular tax cuts that expired at the end of last year.

Lawmakers had been negotiating a provision that would spare doctors from a scheduled 21 percent cut in Medicare payments. They agreed to delay the cuts an additional three years.

House leaders plan to vote on the bill Friday, with the Senate voting next week.

Anyone know what they pay the person who just tightens the four screws which holds the rear tail lights on a car? Its got to be the simplest job there is. Or how much does the persons get paid to ride around and read light meters. And to 7:41, pleeeeeese go on strike, the line to replace you stretches around the corner and DOWN the street. No one forces anyone to work any job. Its fools like you that causes companies to move overseas, you do a five dollar job and want to get paid twentyfive for it. There is no better motivation for people to work than hunger. Anyone on unemployement, come see me, I ll have you a job in no time flat, but of course you wont, cause that would mean you would have to accually WORK.

"ItsCalledOptions", let me guess your, could be anywhere with a very diverse population because socialism and communism is very popular among diverse populations. The lazier a person is, the more likely they are to lean pinko and want something from the government for free, like a paycheck for 6 months, a year or more. It's called "why work when I can sit on my backside and get what is mine". Unfortunately, what you are taking isn't yours, it is money paid in by people who do, not people who sit. Studies have proven that one of the factors which perpetuates high unemployment is a continuation of unemployment benefits without accountability to look for a job. Please don't insult anyone's intelligence by saying that writing in prospective employers on a piece of paper and facing the possibility of having them questioned is accountability. IT IS NOT!!!! It is a left wing ruse and a joke of system. The boss knows more than you think, that's why your pay is low.

All I see is a bunch of ARROGANT PEOPLE posting STUPID COMMENTS! To all of you like me who have had the experience of being laid off....KEEP COLLECTING AS LONG AS YOU CAN AND/OR HAVE TO, I most certainly did! People in the SOUTH ARE STUPID cuz if we all got together and went on strike at these LAME COMPANYS....they would be forced to pay us what we deserve or get out of dodge! Employees make it possible for companys to stay in business....not the BOSSES in the office drinking coffee, reading the paper & don't have a clue what's going on!

"Whatever",....whatever....there is no such thing as kharma! I guarantee you that. Kharma is a teaching from a false religion, it doesn't exist. Start following the tenets of the only real religion, Christianity, pray instead of hoping some nonsense like kharma punishes others and just go get a job already. God will provide, a cow will provide nothing but milk and meat. Those who believe in kharma are mixed up.

To 3:42: I am giving examples of how to make money, how to survive, its about working. YOU want to work, lets work, you would do any job if you had TOO and didnt have the gov handout. Thats the point. I meant what I said. YOUR problem is you want a soft job making big money. Well, until then, get any job, theres plenty of them. SO DONT SAY, theres no jobs, thats BS. The problem is, you dont want to have to accually WORK, you want a cozy paycheck for not getting your hands dirty. You're saying you are better than anyone working those jobs, they beneith you, therefore you came back with your statement. I will help five, maybe more, people get jobs by setting them up with lawn service, push mower, weedwacker, can full of gas,and get their first two jobs set up, perhaps more if it comes hard for some to find them. Theres no excuse to not work, here it is, a job. Theres many jobs available, the list is long. I know what work is, ive worked all kinds of jobs in my lifetime, my hands show it.

Whatever Location: USA on May 21, 2010 at 03:42 PM, there have been engineering jobs, fab, welding jobs in Washington. No one has even applied for. I will not defend Justice yet...still reading his posts, however, some thought this was a joke, its not; I had to lay off about 50 employees due to the economy and the shortcomings of orders. I ran the plates or asked who had a certain car in the parking lot. If they had an Obama bumper sticker, they wanted change, they got it. So, if you voted for the madman in the whitehouse who rather than spur business, decided to just spend his way out of this, enjoy you change. He is using the FDR depression spending to save the never worked. Did you want to loose you job or did you just want a paycut, enjoy your hopey changey thing. Why did the economy go down, they knew a new leadership was coming.

Justice - I hope you lose your job. You aren't offering, you are being sarcastic and condescending.

To 2:08: I am offering to help people get jobs, these jobs may cause them to get callouses on their hands though. The sooner we get started the sooner we can get them off unemployement. I am offering to purchase a few push mowers and weedwackers, at 40-50 per yard, depending on how fast they work, it can be good money. So if these some people you speak of who really want to work, come to this blog and see me, Also, I have aquaintances who own farms, with hog houses, I can problaby get a few jobs there. What kinds of jobs are you talking about which are so hard to find? I bet these farms aren't getting 500 resumes. Also, I know a few crews who do roofing, and siding, probalby get a few jobs there. I also know people in the janitoral business. Thats pretty easy to get started by just placing ads and see. Lets get started.

I hope all you that say "go get a job" gets laid off tomorrow so you can see how hard it is. Every job I apply for gets 500 resumes submitted. I've been lucky enough to be picked for several interviews but still have not be chosen for the job. Being picked is like winning the lottery. I am working a temporary job right now, not collecting unemployment. For me, if I were to take a job flipping burgers or at Lowe's, I wouldn't end up losing money when I send my kids to daycare. I'm sure some milk the system, but not all. Some people really want to work. Until you've been in the situation, you shouldn't comment. Kharma will come back on you - guaranteed.

And to me at7:51: I forgot to let you know, that although you may not be collecting unemployement, if you are, then being a socialistic program being paid for by the taxpayers of this country, then anyone with comments about such, toward anyone collecting such, is absolutly within their right, and with good cause. Now, do you want a job, I can meet you at lowes, and we can get started, how bout tomorrow, just give me a time. If your concern is that you cannot afford to start working by not having the money to get started, fear not, that is covered, includeing gas. What you say? Anyone else on here collectiing unemployement that needs a job? Please step forward. Anyone listening over at the employment security aministration, we can have jobs for everyone collecting unemployement in a week or two, Let me know when you guys want to get started, the sooner the better.
