Local Hair Salons Collecting Hair For Gulf Cleanup

Salons in the east are pitching in to help clean up the oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

Stylists are taking the hair that's been cut and stuffing it into panty hose to be sent to the Gulf and placed in the water to soak up the oil.

The Kinston Salon Smart Style has already collected trimmings from several customers to send off for the hair booms.

Companies like Hanes have already donated over 50,000 pairs of panty hose.

To find out more about salons that are collecting the hair for the booms you can call 252-944-7160.

I think it is a great idea. Think about how much water your hair retains after a shower. It's worth a shot. At least we could say we have tried every avenue if we do this. I say do it!!! If it was our beach, don't you think you'd want others to do WHATEVER they could to help?!?!

Too bad that the hair salons look at this as a marketing ploy instead of helping out. Its like companies that donate money to charity and spent 10 times that amount telling everybody they did.

Let's think positive Eastern NC. What if it were our beaches? Just by getting a trim you are helping out untold number of sea animals, land animals and us humans.

BP makes over 90 million per day in profits. Make them pay for the hair.
