Interior Department Cancels East Coast Offshore Hearings

The Interior Department is canceling indefinitely hearings on the proposed sale of gas and oil leases off the coast of Virginia.

The postponement is contained in a notice of the Federal Register, and environmentalists said it signals a suspension of the lease sale off of Virginia.

Gov. Bob McDonnell's energy secretary, Maureen Matsen, contends the government is taking a "prudent" step in suspending the hearings while it deals with the Gulf oil spill.

The hearings were to be held in Norfolk, North Carolina and Maryland.

The Interior Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

Yea Right, what part is nonsense, Al gores new home, the on going investigation, they fact you use oil, the fact Greenpeace rams fishing boats routinely? Which is it you call nonsense? Note, all of these can be found on the internet, NBC, CBS and ABC. Pick one!

For the record, Japan used a shortage of oil in 1941 as an excuse for making war on the United States. Think the US wouldn't start a third World War if suddenly we couldn't get oil from the Middle East? Not saying drill drill drill, I'm just posing a question...

Leave it to Obama Snake Oil to bring us our daily dosage of nonsense. Our day would not be complete without it. Us armchair quarterbacks don't listen to FAUX and Rush, we just see the big picture for what it is and learn from mistakes. The only thing suspicious with this are those like yourself who are 100% convinced that some liberal tree hugging group did it. Well, if you had a brain, you'd know that no tree hugger on their worst day would even consider doing something of this nature to destroy the environment it's destroying. That's the whole point of being a tree hugger. And for the record, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with respecting our land, respecting what God gave us, respecting people's livelihoods by choosing to not put an area at a risk like this. Plenty of oil in other spots. But you, being the NO man you are, will side with the Palins, and the Becks and any other non Obama group. No one did this intentionally, that is your "conspiracy preaching". INSANITY!

I love how you arm chair quarterbacks are saying what we should happened. Now, if you sold your cars, house and would have some credibility. However, just like Al Gore and his myth of global warming, (Al just bought an 8 million dollar house on a beach in Ca, by they way he says thanks suckers) you don't want to drill for the oil that is used to power your house, heat your house and get you to work everyday. Further, this fire is suspicious. The president just mentioned opening the moritorium on drilling and this happens. Odds...think about it, what are the odds that one would explode of the 3 thousand plus oil drilling platforms in the same week? Someone did this intentionally. Now you suckers are preaching your attack on what you personally do, drive, live in a heated or cooled house. You gettin this liberal guy, its you too brother.

Oil Man, I'm not sure where you get your numbers, but at the rate of oil consumption in 2007, the United States is consuming 20.68 million barrels of oil a day. Even with zero growth, we would need 750 Billion barrels of oil for one century. Furthermore, the most optimistic predictions for the Gulf of Mexico oil production are just over 2 million barrels/day (including deepwater projections). The oil reserves on the east and west coast are not proven. If we don't look at conservation and alternative sources of energy, we can drill with abandon and still never be energy independent. You can also expect oil to get more and more expensive, as it gets more difficult to get out of the ground and refine. We are just as dependent on our natural environment as we are on energy. We need to start thinking about the future and putting more effort into sustainable, environmentally safe choices. I suggest people start checking the facts, rather than reacting to rhetoric.

Oil man, sure its a ploy. Oh yea, it's a real conspiracy. I'm pretty positive that it has nothing to do with the fact that thousands of gallons of oil are spewing into the gulf and washing up on the shoreline, killing the fishing industry which is about all the industry there is down there. I'm sure it also has nothing to do with the fish it will kill, the wildlife it will kill, the tourism on the beaches it will kill......I'm pretty sure it's all because Obama wants us to keep buying foreign oil. I'm sure he and anyone else with a brain hasn't even thought about what has happened. Take your psychotic posting about such an insane idea elsewhere. No matter one's opinion on the president, I am pretty 100% positive this has nothing whatsoever to do with "wanting" to keep us on foreign oil. I'm sure it has EVERYTHING to do with protecting our coastline. As sure as this would happen off our coast, then suddenly it would become "his" fault. Some things are better left alone.

Once again, another knee jerk reaction. Yes we need to examine what went wrong in the Gulf and take steps to fix it, but we also need the oil and the jobs that will come with it.

i say drill baby drill, and the heck with foreign oil. Where do you think our enemys get the money to attack us!
  • by Oil Man on May 6, 2010 at 05:28 PM
Well, this is just another ploy by the Obama Admin. to keep the US dependent on foreign oil. There is enough oil in the Gulf, off shore on the east and west coasts and in Alaska to keep us going for centuries. There is also oil left in the old oil fields, but at a deeper depth. Just give the oil companies some incentive to explore and drill for it. But, the socialist, communist regime in Washington DC do not want us be free from foreigners. It is from them that we can get our loans, ie, China. We are slowly going into the toilet.
