Anna Godfrey, of Lincoln, Nebraska, says a man did call her fat, but that's not why she says she bit his ear off. She says she took a bite in self defense.
"Are you Anna Godfrey? You're under arrest! You assaulted a man!"
That's what Anna Godfrey says law enforcement told her last week when they showed up to arrest her. To them, Godfrey is a criminal. But, to some who have heard her story, she's a hero.
"He called me banana or like a fat banana or something. I'm just like my name is Anna," said Godfrey.
Last Tuesday night, Godfrey was at a friend's party in Lincoln. Godfrey says her friends asked a 24-year-old man to leave the party. The man wouldn't leave and Godfrey says she ended up in a physical altercation with the man. She says the man eventually left, came back, and they fought again. This time, Godfrey claims, the man tried to choke her and so she relied on the only muscles she had left, the ones behind her teeth.
"I feel bad that I bit his ear off because that was not my intention at all. I was just trying to get him off of me. Either I bite him and he lets go of me, or he kept me in a choke hold and I passed out."
Godfrey says she thinks squirrels then ran off with the man's ear after she spit it out.
Godfrey was charged with felony assault and could face up to 50 years in prison. She says the entire incident was self-defense and not because someone called her fat.
