Obama Asks For Federal Rules Change For Hospital Patients And Their Visitors

President Barack Obama is issuing a directive he says will make it easier for hospital patients, particularly gays and lesbians, to receive visitors and choose who will make medical decisions on their behalf.

Obama is asking the Health and Human Services secretary to begin the process of putting in place federal rules to ensure that hospitals respect the rights of patients to designate visitors. The order covers hospitals receiving Medicare or Medicaid.

Under Obama's directive, those designated, including people with powers of attorney and health care proxies, are to have visitation privileges equal to immediate family members.

Obama says gays and lesbians and other Americans have been barred from the bedsides of their partners or loved ones.

Slavery that was deemed acceptable in the Bible was a different kind than what took place in this country and is not comparable IMO. It was then about paying off a debtor and not about being their property. The Bible was strict at how a servant was supposed to be treated. Other civilizations did not have such considerations as when the Hebrews were enslaved by the Egyptians. Other civilizations advanced the idea of a central flat-earth, too yet had notions of the earth being upon the back of a mythical god rather than being on a foundation as the Bible claims. The Bible also refers to the 'circle of the earth' and the earth being suspended by nothing. I'd say that was a pretty good assessment given the times they lived in. Perhaps God's revelation to man was given based on his ability to comprehend, much like the way you can't explain advanced math and science to a kindergartener.

One more time! Perhaps you should all read the presidents memorandum before thinking you understand the issue. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/presidential-memorandum-hospital-visitation. NC state laws on the issue are put up as an example to the rest of the country in his memorandum which is why some of you feel this is already in place. More importantly and as with everything this president does, the good in his change is a cover for the very bad. Put simply, this is a step that gives easier access to non-family members to pull the plug on life and/or stop expensive medical procedures for Medicaid and Medicare patients. Please read how it opens the authority of medical decisions not to the doctors but to supposed advocates of the patient. Who is the advocate of most Medicare patients? The state!! But you all think this is about gay rights. Laughable!!!

I am responding to the question "Doesn't he have anything else better to do." Well, as President, I would hope he could multitask, which is a good quality in a leader. When people used to criticize Bush about not doing enough the sheep of the right would respond with "he is only one man!" Now we have a President who is attempting a lot and he needs to focus on one issue at a time? Do you people realize that a President's first term is the most important when trying to pass legislation? Did you take US History/Civics in high school? I know many of you did not pay attention because many crazed right wingers swear we are removing the teaching of the constitution from US History, when there is an entire class called "Civics and Economic" that teaches both the US Constitution and the NC Constitution. WOW. Anyway I got off on a tangent. Oh and Eric you are 100% correct, but these people will tell you otherwise!

As for Eric, he doesn't know much about the bible which is the undisputed Word of God and don't believe his confusing unorganized words relating to the bible. Eric, you're just a Vapor in time, here today and gone tomorrow. What right do you have to scrutinize and belittle God's Holy Word which has been since the beginning. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 3:19-20 "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, 'He catches the wise in their own craftiness'; and again, 'The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.'" Proverbs 28:26 "He who trusts in his own heart is a fool...." Proverbs 12:15 "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise." Eric, is this you?

Unless I'm mistaken, healthcare proxies/medical powers of attorney, individuals who are not ill, and generally over age 12, have access to patients during visting hours (obvious exceptions of ICU/CCU/NICU and the like). The point? A waste of time, paper and redtape to enact a mandate that is already in practice.... or is that simply saying being a politician?

All Obama's saying is that patients can now choose who they want to visit them, that's it. Currently you can have immediate family, and spouse and kids. Same-sex partners aren't allowed, and that in and of itself is wrong, and contrary to the comfort of the patient. As for the Bible, it used to be used to justify slavery, and the text hasn't changed, only the interpretation. It also used to be used to tell people the Earth was flat, and that the Sun revolved around the Earth. Every time the Church is proved wrong, they change their story. And it's about to happen again. To stay relevant and thus profitable, an organized religion cannot dispute scientific fact; it has to work within the realm of truth. Truth is, gender preference is genetic, decided at birth. Any intelligent design-based religion, including Christianity, has to factor that in somehow. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense to anyone who knows said truth.

Doesn't this idiot have more important issues to tend to? Does he even have an agenda when he wakes up in the morning or does he just come up with these hair-brained schemes on Air Force 1. Maybe it's lack of oxygen from flying so often. Or maybe its all that pot he smoked in college.

I don't mind helping everyone who really needs help gay/lesbian or straight but I do have a problem with Obama catering specifically to gay/lesbians and promoting their lifestyle as it's ok and should be with the rest of America. He's doesn't go by what the bible says regarding those kinds of lifestyles. He goes by what the world and satan thinks is ok. Like I said, I love everyone but hate those types of SIN just like Jesus Christ does. Most of America will be glad when Obama leaves the whitehouse permanently. What an anti-christ is he and the rest of the crazed liberals in DC. Anit-christ and anti-American.
