A North Carolina Army post has been named one of the military's best bases for mission performance and quality of life.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced on Friday that Fort Bragg won the 2010 Commander in Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence. Other winners included both a Navy and Marine Corps base in California, an Air Force base in Alaska and a base in Pennsylvania. The Department of Defense said the bases provided superior working, housing and recreational areas.
Fort Bragg is located near Fayetteville, in south-central North Carolina. It is the Army's largest base by population, and is home to the 82nd Airborne Division and the Army's Special Operations Command.
