Butterfield To Health Care Opponents: "Settle Down"

Democrat Congressman G.K. Butterfield has a message for health care opponents: Settle down.

Butterfield's remarks came during an appearance in Rocky Mount Saturday where he was promoting free tax help for people who need it.

The First District Congressman had police protection as he attended the event. Butterfield says, "We've got to tone down the hostility and dissention that we have across America. I have not received any deaths threats, but several of my colleagues have. We must be able to have political debate in this country without having hostility and violence."

Congressman Butterfield's office says they never received any threatening communications from anyone, but says the police protection was offered, so they took it.

From Thomas Jefferson, " Government large enough to give you everything you want is also strong enough to take everything you have." Think about it.

I stick with OSOC-Obama shamed our country, dude. So you already feeling the heathcare bill not slated to hit the country for 4 years? It just passed. Think for a second, if the bill is so good, why are both houses not participating in it? It that credible for you? Nice try...the bill is not enacted and already you have relief...hooey, once again.

OSOC...you are the one posting "hooey". Try reading the numbers from an unbiased poll instead of the drivel you espouse. While your at it, try reading the language in the two H/C bills that were passed. By the way, since our President was elected I've finally been able to get good medical coverage at affordable prices. Between Medicare and the President's revised VA eligibility criteria I'm finally out from under the $14K a year ripoff I was paying for limited coverage. So far I haven't seen or heard a single credible argument against this monumental legislation. Just a bunch of right wing nut jobs babbling against it for no valid reason. By the way I just noticed that the letters OSOC could stand for Obama Saved Our Country. Time for another Nic, dude.

John, you will never be able to purchase good or affordable insurance. You mention you age, that is a factor. Do you drink, smoke, overweight, have diabetes, over 50...this will dictate what care the govenment will pay for. Anything outside of that comes out of your pocket. Thats part of the problem that most that didn't read the bill thought it was as you described. Whatever polls you looked at were slanted. Try Rasmussen, the polls takers of Clinton, Carter and Obama for the facts. It will sound more credible when you post hooey.

I think old Snake Oil has been taking too much of his own medicine. Don't worry, even Snake Oil salesmen are eligible for coverage under our President and the Democratic majority in Congress's new plan. What most people fail to realize is that those with insurance they like and can afford won't have to change a thing. Folks without insurance or those with policies with outrageous premiums (like the $14,000 a year I was paying for limited coverage)will be guaranteed to be able to purchase good affordable coverage. What is wrong with that? As far as Burr he was the only NC senator to vote against the will of his constituents as evidenced by a number of polls. Whether someone is a member of a minority or not has nothing to do with this issue. With unemployment so high, the number of people needing affordable and accessible coverage is near an all time high. Folks like me who lost their jobs in the Bush era and can't get work due to their age and medical history need a plan like this.

Bud, comrad, you will be assimulated by Obamaborg soon. Resistance if futile! You will be one of the collective. You will be like Lavon and Data man, zombies to reality with no knowledge of history....you will drink the koolad and it will be good! It may smell like donkey urine but if you drink it, Pelosi will look like a hot babe. John, Burr was the only senator to stand up against healthcare we don't want...when you don't have a job and you want to work...even minorities want jobs....you maybe wrong. Not all minorities are happy with Obamas job since they are out of work!

Now THAT was a fantastic comment battle! I had a good chuckle at you guys. The funniest comments were the ones saying ol' Butterknife isn't a socialist. What comedians! Please, continue!

You guys just don't get the picture. Congressman Butterfield's seat is as safe as they come. The Federal courts and Republican controlled Dept of Justce gerrymandered the ENC Congressional Districts in 2001 to make safe districts for their incumbants, along with several minority majority districts to comply with Title 5 of the Voting Rights Act. GK can keep that seat as long as he wants it. His Republican opponent doesn't have a snow ball's chance in hell of getting as much as 45% of the vote, let alone winning the election. If Burr is re-elected to the Senate this year (God help us), GK might be a good choice for the 2016 Senate contest. He ought to be able to whip Burr easily, creating an opening in the NC 1st. If that were to happen, you can rest assured that his house seat will be filled by a Democrat. The GOP is wasting time and resources even bothering to run someone against him...ask Greg Dority.
