Camp Lejeune Marine Dies After Combat Injury

The military says Gunnery Sgt. Robert l. Gilbert II was injured in combat last Monday in Afghanistan, and he died this past Tuesday.

The Ohio native was 28 years old. Gilbert had been in the Marine Corps for nearly 10 years, and earned several awards, including a Purple Heart, a Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, two Combat Action Ribbons, three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, an Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.
