Va. AG: Colleges Can't Ban Gay Discrimination

RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia's attorney general is advising the state's public colleges to rescind policies that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Kenneth Cuccinelli says in a letter to college presidents and other officials that only the General Assembly can determine which classes of people are protected by state government nondiscrimination policies.

Proposals to ban such discrimination against gays have repeatedly failed in the legislature.

The Republican attorney general says in the letter, dated Thursday, that state institutions cannot adopt a policy position rejected by the General Assembly.

Virginia's Democratic Party chairman says colleges can set their own policies.

Gay-rights activists say Cuccinelli's move could cost Virginia top students and faculty.

If marriage between male & female, family values under God and teaching the difference from right & wrong was carried out & promoted in America like it has been for 250 years or more, we wouldn't be having this conversation and the world wouldn't be so dysfunctional & full of sin. Leave God and his principles out of the mix and crap like this is what we'll see more of in these last days. "Discrimination" my butt. A term which labels sin and wasn't used as much until these last days as an excuse for covering right from wrong. What a shame this nation has become! For a man to lay with another man and same goes with a woman laying with another woman, it is an abomination unto the sight of God and he hates the sin. It is sin he hates but loves the sinner and hopes they repent and turn from their wickedness.

Two corrections: The [VA AG] should be ashamed of himself...and, He certainly does not [love THY neighbor].

a smart, hard working, money earning, gay college student can simply be DENIED college just from being gay. Yep, a friendly gay person can be denied entrance to college. ITS WRONG!!! That is DISCRIMINATION. THAT IS WRONG WRONG WRONG! The VA GA should be ASHAMED of himself. He certainly does not "love they neighbor"

Wow!! I just don't even know what to say to you people! If you insist on holding America back from the rights that so many hard working, honest Americans DESERVE, then we may as well go ahead and withdraw any anti discrimination laws, reinstate slavery, and live as though this nation was still called the "New World." You people that cannot allow others to live their lives as they choose and enjoy the same rights and freedoms that are so freely given to you, make me utterly sick! It is people with such close minded ideals that hold this nation back! When has it ever hurt you that people choose to spread their love in manner that you do not? Considering that we are a nation that has been at war for more years than EVER necessary, one would think that the idea of loving, no matter who is doing so to whom, would not bother anyone! Ya'll enjoy your close minded lives! I will be out there fighting to make this nation one that is based on equality for all of its people!
