UPDATE: Gunman In Pentagon Metro Shooting Dies

The gunman who wounded two police officers at the subway entrance to the Pentagon has died.

The head of Pentagon police says the suspect calmly pulled a weapon from his pocket and started firing. The officers suffered grazing wounds in an exchange of gunfire that mortally wounded the shooter.

Law enforcement officials have identified the dead suspect as John Patrick Bedell. They're trying to determine if a second person may have been involved.

Since 9/11, subway passengers have not been able to directly enter the Pentagon.

Now, there are signs that Bedell may have had resentment toward the U.S. government and suspicions over the 9/11 attacks.

In an Internet posting, a user by the name JPatrickBedell wrote that he was "determined to see that justice is served" in the death of Marine who committed suicide in 1991. The case has long been the source of conspiracy theories.

Great shooting by the officers they hit him in the head at point blank range. They saved the tax payers a lot of money by killing him now we don't have to go through a trial and then send him to prison where we have to keep him up for the rest of his life.

Glad to hear that the police are getting better at hitting targets. Thought and prayers to the wounded police.
