Senator Richard Burr will try for another term he currently holds as the Republican senator for our state.
Burr's re-election paperwork was turned into to the North Carolina State Board of Elections Monday morning.
Democratic Secretary of State Elaine Marshall also filed her paperwork Monday.
Other democrats who have filed since the candidacy period began two weeks ago include former State Senator Cal Cunningham of Lexington, Chapel Hill attorney Ken Lewis and Lumberton lawyer Marcus Williams.
Two other GOP candidates, Brad Jones of Lake Toxaway and Eddie Burks of Asheboro, also have filed to challenge Burr in the May primary.
The filing period closes Friday at noon.
