UPDATE: Climber's Body Recovered In St. Helens Crater

The Skamania County Sheriff's office says the body of Joseph Bohlig was found Tuesday, more than a day after the 52-year-old man tumbled 1,500 feet.

Bohlig, of Kelso, Washington, reached the summit with a climbing partner after a four-hour hike Monday.

Bohlig took off his backpack and a layer of clothing then decided to pose for pictures near the rim of the crater. He was backing up when the snow gave way and he fell.

Foul weather has hampered helicopter rescue efforts. Overnight temperatures overnight at the crater fell into the 20s.

To Nikki and Me: Thanks for the kudos;it's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. To Christian: I agree. I think the billions of dollars we waste every year on the space program could be far better spent.

You know,I do really hate that someone died here..but what really gets me is how pointless it all was. This man had no compelling need to be climbing up on that volcano. Just like the idiots who climb this or that mountain somewhere and promptly get buried in an avalanche or just fall off. Then, teams of rescuers have to risk [and sometimes lose] their own lives to go and try to find them. If God wanted us climbing up on these things,He'd have put stairs on them. You want adventure? Go to Disney World!
