Man Sets Hugs Record

He was clocked at 208 per hour on his way to becoming the world champion -- of hugs.

A 51-year-old Ohio man with the Valentine's Day spirit and a cause logged 7,777 hugs in 24 hours.

Jeff Ondash, who hugs under the costumed alter ego Teddy McHuggin, broke the record last night outside the Paris Las Vegas hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Ondash says he wanted to raise money for the American Heart Association because his brother and father died relatively young due to heart problems.

As McHuggin, Ondash sports a red NASCAR-style driver's suit with hugging logos and a wrestling-style championship belt.

A Guinness spokesman says the previous record was 5,000 hugs in one day. Ondash also holds the record for most hugs in one hour with 1,205.

Ondash says McHuggin is now eyeing both the world's longest single hug -- currently 24 hours and 1 second -- and breaking his current two records.

I'm with Hmm. It's good to read about amusing, positive and alternative good news for a change.

1205 hugs in an hour is just under 3 seconds per hug, which includes going to the next person (or them moving to you). That isn't a hug. That's a very quick embrace. A good hug should be at least 5-10 seconds (if it's a kid, 5 is good; if it's an adult, 10 is the high average). Also a 24:00:01 "hug" isn't a hug, it's acting silly to get a world record. It should also go without saying that gesture of kindness isn't one if it's done to break records, but there it is just the same. @D. Novins -- aren't you forgetting your pointy hood and sheet? @Ordnanceman -- nobody held a gun to your head and made you click on the story. If this site wastes your time you can always go elsewhere.

I guess that WITN couldn't find anything regarding ECU, the weather, or most shockingly of all, crime so they used this as a space filler.

I for one think it's a cute story and thank you WITN for sharing it. To get our minds off of the crime ridden city we live in and the violence all around us. Good for him to shoot for something fun instead of shotting at someone. Thanks for posting! :)

Really?! WITN, I cannot believe you wasted our time with this story.

What a sissy. No doubt the liberals in Hollywood will be offering him a multi-million dollar movie deal, so that he can better spread their feminized, socialist, pro-gay marriage agenda, since Adam Lambert didn't work out as planned.

It must be nice not to have anything else to do!
