Body Found In Airplane Wheel Well

Japanese authorities say they're trying to identify a body found inside one of the landing gear compartments on a Delta Airlines flight that arrived in Tokyo from New York.

Police at the Narita International Airport say the body of the apparent stowaway, identified only as that of a male with dark skin, was clad only in a long-sleeved, plaid shirt and jeans.

A mechanic found the body lying inside the landing gear compartment of the Boeing 777-200 during maintenance after Delta Flight 59 from New York landed at Narita on Sunday night.

Police say the body had no visible injuries except signs of frostbite, and the man might have died of hypothermia during the flight.

The temperature in that part of the plane falls to about minus 58 degrees during flight.

Police are investigating the case both as an accident and a possible crime.

People should be given an IQ test before being allowed to walk around free, I guess.

Probably could blame Hollywood, too. People see such "feats" in movies and think that its real. Could have been a foreigner trying to find a way closer to his home country or something. Who knows? He might never be identified.

I don't know how he got through security...maybe he did get past security but still managed to get through another secure area giving him direct access to the airplane. But the TSA has some explaining to do!! Let's say the dude did enter the flighline area from outside the airport (i.e., climbed the fence). He could have easily planted a bomb on the plane! So I want answers, TSA. How'd this happen?

How do we have so many idiots in America ? People should know those areas aren't pressurized and there is no oxygen or warmth at 30,000 ft. Guess you only make this mistake once.

Every few years we hear about someone that has attempted this. Every few years when it happens we hear all over again how stupid an attempt it is. I don't know of any stories yet where the person didn't freeze to death in the process. It does however make me wonder the same thing about accessing the flightline area, what with all the supposed security measures we have now. God knows you can't even get near the normal entry to a plane without being a ticketed passenger anymore - you have to say your goodbyes before the security checkpoint, which in any larger airports isn't even within eyeshot of the gates. He must've hoofed it from a long way outside, I guess?
