Rain Here, But Heavy Snow Coming To East Coast

An army of snow removal equipment is ready to go in and around the nation's capital as the mid-Atlantic region expects to get punished by a major winter storm.

In northern Virginia, officials say 1,800 trucks will be ready to roll by morning. Maryland has 2,000.

Total snow accumulations of 16 to 24 inches are expected, resulting in cancellation of flights and train services.

To the south, in Richmond, Virginia legislators are taking a day off today.

Officials are warning residents to finish preparations early.

A mid-December storm brought about 20 inches in many areas. Between that and several smaller snowfalls, regional officials say they spent way more than budgeted for clearing and treating roads.
