Toyota Recall Expands

Toyota Motor Corp. says it will recall an additional 1.09 million vehicles in the United States over floor mat problems.

Toyota said Thursday the fresh recall would affect five models -- 2008-2010 Highlander, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Venza, 2009-2010 Matrix, and 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe.

My 2001 Ford Explore had a recall with cruise control that could result in the car catching on fire. I still loved that car more than any other and i kept it. Toyota is not the only car maker that has problems. You can find them right here in America too!

With big numbers comes more problems. Toyota would eventually have this massive recall because of the large number of sales. While Toyota slips a bit, Ford has gained in reliability according to JD Powers and recently posted a profit amid a stale economy and without government assistance. Looks like at least one American automaker is rebounding.

Toyota normally produces a good brand but I've always purchased cars by American companies,ie, Ford and GM, it is a free country to choose how you spend your money, for me it also "buy American"

I have never owned a Toyota because I believe in buying American Made cars and anything else American made. Don't complain about bailing out GM if you bought a Toyota or other foriegn vehicle. If you buy American made, it might be your job you are saving.

I'm on my forth Camry and wouldn't drive anything else. I agree with some others here. There are recalls on other vehicles as well from time to time. It's not just a Toyota thing. I'm sure they're working hard to correct the problem. I'm a loyal Toyota customer...I'll keep on buying them.

i called yesterday about my camry and they are going to recall only certain ones. i'm starting to hate toyota. i mean i have a 3 year old and if something happens they don't care.

I agree... I love my Tundra. It's the best vehicle I have ever owned. Recalls on vehicles are a dime a dozen. They happen every year. I've owned Fords and Chevy's, both which've had recalls on them. Whatever. Don't hate on Toyota.

To 08 Highlander owner: Unfortunately, ALL car companies put some of the cheapest tires on their vehicles, it is not a Toyota thing. If you can get 30,000 miles out of them, you are doing good. You can contact the tire company and if you prove that you have rotated your tires regularly you may get a discount to replace your tires. We recently ran into that problem and we were able to get 4 new tires at HALF price. It does not hurt to try.

it isn't floor mat problems - get your facts right WITN!! they originally thought it was the floor mat months ago, now they think its the gas pedals themselves and definately not the floor mats - i believe they don't know what is wrong at all. the letter i got (i own a camry) states the only way to know if its broken is if it starts to stick - GREAT!

08 Highlander owner - I agree with you about the tires!! My 07 Camry came with Toyo tires that barely lasted 30k miles!
