LONDON -- Britain's military says a U.K. defense correspondent embedded with U.S. Marines had been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defense says that the Sunday Mirror's Rupert Hamer and photographer Philip Coburn were accompanying a U.S. Marine Corps. patrol in southern Afghanistan when the vehicle they were traveling in was hit by a makeshift bomb.
The military did not say exactly when the incident occurred.
An e-mail seeking clarification was not immediately returned Sunday.
The military says a U.S. Marine and a member of the Afghan army were also killed in the explosion.
The military says that Coburn was seriously wounded in the blast but remains in stable condition.
Four U.S. Marines were also seriously injured in the attack.
