Man Arrested In Newark Airport Security Breach

NEWARK, N.J. -- A New Jersey senator says the potential punishment for the man accused of touching off an airport security alert is too lenient.

The man believed to have breached security at Newark Liberty Airport to bid his girlfriend goodbye faces a non-federal trespassing charge and a fine of up to $500.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg says there should be a much harsher penalty for triggering the shutdown of a busy airport terminal that led to snarled flights worldwide.

The man was arrested yesterday in New Jersey and released after questioning early this morning.

His roommate says suspect Haisong Jiang was born in China and is a doctoral student in a joint molecular biosciences program at Rutgers University.

Paul Loriquet of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office says the suspect is due to appear in Newark municipal court next week.

Sounds like this guy is guilty of being in love, not being a terrorist. I'm sure the senator that is concerned about the punishment being too lenient has never broken a law, never cheated on his taxes (or his wife) and always paid the full amount of taxes that he owed. Our politicians are all very honest, upstanding citizens. Yeah, right!

Yes the man was dumb for entering an Exit Only section of the airport. Not sure if he did it because he knew the TSA agent left his post...maybe he entered it on accident. We all know that he never had intentions of blowing the place up, etc. He's not a terrorist. The TSA agent who left his post should have been arrested and fired!! He was the foolish one to commit such a careless act. Coincidentally, someone with bad intentions could have been there and gone through.
