Missing Maryland Girl's Body Found

The body of a Maryland girl who authorities say was abducted by a registered sex offender was found Friday in a wooded area near the Delaware state line after thousands of volunteers spent Christmas searching for her.

Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said the body of 11-year-old Sarah H. Foxwell was discovered about 4 p.m. He offered few other details. Thomas J. Leggs Jr., 30, was arrested Wednesday and charged in her kidnapping.

Wicomico County State's Attorney Davis R. Ruark said authorities remain focused on Leggs as they investigate the killing.

"There's no indication of involvement of any other individuals at this point," he told The Associated Press.

Leggs is a former boyfriend of the girl's aunt, who is her legal guardian. A public defender representing him has not returned a phone call.

Lewis said the body was found in the northern part of the county, in the area where authorities had been focusing their search.

"This is not the way we wanted to find our young lady on Christmas, but at the very least we've given closure to the family," Ruark said at the news conference.

Lewis said Sarah was last seen Tuesday night at her home on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

How many children must suffer? The system needs to quit releasing these people. I agree the Aunt should also be held accountable also. It is child endangerment to bring a sex offender into a house where a child lives.

where does it say the woman knew he was a registered sex offender? you should always check out prospective men that you dont know that well that you are thinking about dating on the nc sex offender registry online. theres no way to tell otherwise unless he mentions it. and if he mentions it, definitely look into it. on the registry it will have what it was he was arrested for (indecent liberties, assault, etc...)

Her stupid behind should be locked up,too. She knew he was a registered sex offender, and he should not have been around the girl or any child. I agree...anybody that rapes a child should be put to death instantly. Not put in jail for tax payers to take care of them so they can be released to do it again.

Men and/or women who mess with children should be Castrated while they are doing prison time. They should then be injected with some type of drug that keeps them from having any type of sexual desires. No ladies...you don't get off the hook either cuz there are alot of women who mess with children as well its just not talked about as much.

My heart goes out to this family for their loss. I am truly sorry to hear this tragedy. This man should be put away for the rest of his life, it makes no sense in these men going around molesting and killing kids!!!

Yet another example of why all sex offenders should just be executed immediately upon their first conviction. These people are animals and it has been demonstrated repeatedly that they cannot be rehabilitated.
