Up To 5 Deaths Blamed On Massive Snowstorm

As many as five deaths are being blamed on a blizzard-like storm moving up the East Coast. Three deaths in Virginia appear to be linked to the wintry weather and two traffic deaths are blamed on the snow in Ohio.

The storm has dropped nearly two feet of snow in some areas. Forecasters say parts of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachussetts could see more than 16 inches by the end of Sunday.

In western Virginia, officials say several hundred motorists were stranded and had to be rescued by four-wheel-drive vehicles. Some 500 people in the state have sought warmth and refuge in emergency shelters.

Mayors in Washington and Philadelphia have declared snow emergencies, while governors in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Delaware have declared states of emergency.

Most of the flights at Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport have been canceled and public transportation in the area has nearly ground to a halt.
