AIDS Activists To Obama: Send Funds To The South

People with AIDS, activists and health care professionals want the Obama administration to provide more money to combat the disease's toll in the rural South.

That will be the message Monday in Jackson, when a top White House aide holds a community discussion to gather input on a national strategy to combat the disease.

Patrick Packer of the Southern AIDS Coalition says the South leads the nation in percentage of new HIV cases, yet it receives the less federal funding than any other region in the U.S.

Packer says that medication assistance programs in some states have waiting lists, and that care for patients is lacking despite changes to steer more money to rural areas.

really people? so much money is going to useless agendas and yet you sit back and criticize when part of that money could go to something useful and helpful. True alot of people do get the HIV through sex, but i seriously doubt anyone goes out with the intention of getting it. Abstinence just doesn't work anymore, society has started shoving sex down the throats of children at such a young age, it's nearly impossible to find a teenager that hasn't engaged in some form of unprotected sex.... but i digress. I understand not wanting to pay for someones sexual habits, but if by funding this organization you can stop just one person from contracting this disease, then it's worth it. What's that old saying? 'Hate the sin, but love the sinner'.

me,are your efforts to provide copy and paste info still adds nothing to the table. We don't care how they got it.Let them die out as it's not the public's responsibility to feed degenerates nor to medicate.

I can't help but laugh when I read all the comments you 'Christians' leave. Aren't you supposed to love one another and care for each other? Instead you leave hateful comments. Just because someone is HIV positive does NOT mean they are a bad person! HIV is a virus that started in monkeys and over time entered the human body. People with HIV develop AIDS later one if they are unable to pay for the medicines that prevent them them from getting AIDS. You know we, as tax payers, pay millions of dollars to keep criminals in jail...so what's wrong with paying millions to contribute to the HEALTH and WELL-BEING of someone ill? YES I know people get HIV through sharing needles, but you can't blame EVERYONE for getting it sexually. Not everyone with HIV is a bad person. So be CHRISTIAN and stop whining.

Let me get this straight, people make irresponsible descisions to have unprotected sex and/or share drug needles and they want government funds. Simply astounding.

me,Everyone knows how it is transmitted. So why in the world anybody want to share needles or have sex knowing they have AIDS.Sick people out thier that dont know how to face reality dont you think. What money is funded should go directly to innocent children not trying to change anyones drug or sexual addictions.I say try and save the children and let the sickos die out. After all most of them put it on themselves.

To Cindi in Simpson: Do your research and educate yourself before posting. Please go the CDC's website and read how HIV/AIDS is transmitted. It's ok, I will do it for you! HIV is spread by sexual contact with an infected person, by sharing needles and/or syringes (primarily for drug injection) with someone who is infected, or, less com-monly (and now very rarely in countries where blood is screened for HIV antibod-ies), through transfusions of infected blood or blood clotting factors. Babies born to HIV-infected women may become infected before or during birth or through breast-feeding after birth. In the health care setting, workers have been infected with HIV after being stuck with needles containing HIV-infected blood or, less frequently, after infected blood gets into a worker’s open cut or a mucous membrane (for example, the eyes or inside of the nose). Why should tax payers have to pay for what another person's sexual habits bring to the table?.One more "coalition".Wonder if obama will hold a "summit" on this topic!
