Elevator To Space? They're Really Trying!

Rocketing off to space? Some think an elevator might be the way to go.

The so-called space elevator is the future goal of this week's $2 million Space Elevator Games in the Mojave Desert.

In a major test of the concept, robotic machines powered by laser beams will try to climb a cable suspended from a helicopter hovering more than a half-mile (one kilometer) high at Edwards Air Force Base.

Several teams have qualified to participate in the event beginning Wednesday on the dry lake bed near NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards.

Funded by a space agency program to explore bold technology, the contest is a step toward bringing the idea of a space elevator out of the realm of science fiction and into reality.

Saved: I have studied extensively, so I'll comment. There was ONE tower of Babel, and it was for a completely different purpose. No one in this scientific experiment is trying to find out if God is hanging out in the stratosphere, trust me. If it was so bad to be in space, I think the planet would have already torched long ago for all our spacecraft missions. You werent by any chance a supporter of that bible translation & book burning a short while back were you? Cause I think you might need to do a little more study yourself. Just a thought.

Actually 2012 is based off the Mayan Calender, I doubt Saved would believe in it, even though that the Mayan religion had started around the same time christianity became legalized in Rome.

Maybe they should send you to space "Saved" - the only babel here is what's spitting out of your mouth. You're the type of person that shouldn't go see that movie 2012 because you may end up believing it.

Another bible bumper trying to put a spin on something that is not even related. Space and heaven is not the same thing.

Lord have mercy, this is exactly what the Bible was talking about. A modern day tower of Babel. This is frightening and everyone better take note about it. Trying to build a physical path to Heaven ("space") can only end badly if you study God's word.
