Drug-Maker Promises More H1N1 Vaccine

Swiss drug-maker Novartis AG says it will deliver about 30 million doses of swine flu vaccine to the United States by the end of November.

The company says in a statement Thursday that it already has shipped more than 7.5 million doses of pandemic vaccine to America and is on target with commitments made to the U.S.

Novartis and other major swine flu vaccine producers have been hit by production delays.

The U.S. has received only about 23 million of the 45 million vaccine doses it had expected from Novartis and other vaccine makers by mid-October.

Why is North Carolina so far behind in getting their H1N1 supply? Has anyone seen the info from FOX News that shows what states have gotten in quantity of vaccine? NC has received a very low amount considering the number of people in the state. Is this becuase our leaders are too slack to get us on the list or they dont care. We are lagging behind most other states - there is no excuse. Look at it on FOX News for yourself.

One person died of the 1976 swine flu. Hundreds more died because of the vaccine. Roughly 250 died because of the Avian flu, and several dozen died because of the vaccine. I understand both your arguments are directed towards to current administration, but remember that they are not the producers of the vaccines. I can clearly see both your agendas, which is nothing more than a witch hunt, but this issue has nothing to do with what you think is 'government-run health care'. Remember that the US is not the only nation requesting millions of doses of the H1N1 vaccine. Only a handful of drug companies world-wide produce it. Surely supply is limited, and of course things like this will happen. I recommend you read outside news sources outside of Fox and the US in general in order to understand the complexity of this issue. Angus - what's with your copy and paste job in this blog?

Thanks Wolfgang for bringing up this subject. It should be a fairly simple task to produce H1N1 and distribute the vaccine. As we do with regular flu shots each and every year. But it was apparently beyond the capacity of the Obama Administration to manage such a routine feat. If it can't run the epidemiological equivalent , of running a outdoor hot dog cart at a fair. How can Obama promise that the government will do an adequate job of managing the nation's health care system? (To say nothing of two car companies and a trove of banks and insurance firms?] And these failures can have drastic consequences for the health of all Americans. Do we really have confidence in government's ability to make these health decisions? Does the Gov't's inability to protect us from the simple Flu mean anything to you?

Obama wants to run the health business? How can the government pretend that it can manage, overhaul, streamline, and reform the health care system in the United States when it can't even deliver enough flu shots to prevent a pandemic? We have seen the H1N1 virus coming for over a year. It is no surprise that much of America needs vaccination. It was no secret that the flu season was approaching. But now that it is upon us, we find ourselves pathetically short of shots. Obama and the government told us that we would have 100's of Millions of vaccinations available. Then, over the summer, the prediction was that 40 million would be on hand by the end of October. Last month, the estimate was scaled back to 28 million. And, as of late last week, only 11.5 million had been delivered leaving 10's of millions vulnerable and, tragically likely leading to 100's of preventable deaths. Given the tendency of the virus to strike the young & children. Obama lies again.
