Boy Found Dead In Septic Tank Drowned

A coroner says the cause of death for a 4-year-old Pennsylvania boy found dead in a septic tank was drowning.

But Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi said Tuesday that she couldn't determine the circumstances of Wyatt Smitsky's death.

State police are investigating whether his drowning was intentional or an accident.

Wyatt's body was found Sept. 5 after searchers drained a septic tank on property near his home in Greene Township, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

The boy was playing with two young sisters when he went missing, prompting an 18-hour search.

A district attorney has said it's possible that Wyatt moved the tank's 14-pound lid by himself.

That is a tragic story. If the law is to keep the lid exposed, there should be some kind of locking system to prevent these accidents from happening. Kids are naturally curious. I wouldn't think foul play was involved.

Yes this is a tragity! Who is respossible? The State! They have a law that now requires new septic tank lids to be exposed, they cannot be not burried and pass inspection! Isn't that something? Laws were made for something that wasn't a big deal to start with, and that is a simple septic tank lid couldn't be covered with a few inches of dirt! God rest this childs soul and place shame on those who wrote this law!

My 4 year old can lift a 25 lb barbell weight. He does not do it easily but he manages to move it around surprisingly well. My 4 year old is bigger than most but would have absolutely no problem with 14 pounds.

Coroners do not have any medical training, they are elected officials. I think a MEDICAL EXAMINER needs to look at the body.

This is horrible. I don't see how a 4 year old could lift a 14lb lid though.

Wether his death was intentional or accidental its a very sad story. If someone purposly drowned this innocent child I hope they pay for what they have done. My prayers go out to his family.

My God, this is a sad story no matter how it turns out. That poor little boy. My prayers for him, he is with the Lord now and is in good hands.
