Deaf-Mute Man Rescues Family From Fire

A man in Manchester, New Hampshire who can't hear or speak rescued his family from a burning apartment early Thursday morning.

Kent Clark is deaf and mute. He couldn't hear the smoke detectors or call 911 for help, but he managed to get all three of his family members out of their burning apartment at 4:30 a.m.

Clark said he woke up and the whole place was in flames, and he broke out windows to drag his mom and his baby out.

He also found his fiancee in the smoke and flames and got her out of the building as well.

Clark's mom was unconscious when he dragged her out of the house. She has second and third degree burns around her face and head. She remains hospitalized.

Clark, his fiancee and his infant daughter were treated and released from the hospital.

Fire officials say the cause of the blaze was "careless disposal of smoking materials."
