Rio de Janeiro Wins 2016 Olympic Bid

The 2016 Olympics are going to Rio de Janeiro, putting the games in South America for the first time.

Rio beat surprise finalist Madrid in the last round of voting.

Chicago was knocked out in the first round -- in one of the most shocking defeats ever handed down by the International Olympic Committee -- and Tokyo was eliminated in the second round.

Rio had played heavily on the fact that South America has never previously hosted the games, while Europe, Asia and North America have done so repeatedly. Now, only Africa and Antarctica remain as continents that have not been awarded an Olympics.

Snakeoil, you are a typical brainwashed fool. You tell me to drink "koolaid"? I don't drink koolaid, but thanks for offering. I am informed from reading everything I can get my hands on, unlike you FOOLS that only watch fox "news". But it's ok, that is why you are in the minority. The SANE people of this country have moved on from the asinine Republican policy. You say Obama's approval rating is down? Why don't you check out stats for favorable views on Republicans? It's lower than low. But keep that attitude. It's done so well for you. Enjoy your astroturf rallies with all the crazys! Oh my god look, 75,000 disillusioned rejects in Washington! lol Good luck in '12! You'll need it with the idiots you support! ;)

Being progressive means spending 7 trillion dollars, adding additional stimulus programs and a healthcare program extimated at 1 trillion. So, if being progressive means this, count me out. Sounds like someone has a spending problem. Keep hating? Whatever (thanks witn)! All this progressive has done for this president is make him more unpopular in less days than Jimmy Carter. A one term president which will take years to clean up his mess. Now, go back to, mix up some koolaide and take it easy on the snake oil, you can OD on the stuff.

Obviously the US would not get the olympics in 2016. The truth is that after 8 years of Bushy Jr. giving the rest of the world the middle finger, did any of you think they would reward us with the global stage? At least Obama gave it his best effort. It's sad to read some of your comments. The Republican mindset is that if it isn't good for Republicans, we hate it. It doesn't matter if it makes the United States of America better. Republicans only care about pushing their backwoods agenda forward, even when the sane people of this country have already run them out of office. Keep hating. Keep embracing the ideals and morals of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. That will keep you in the minority while the rest of the country moves forward. It's called progress, and the only way to achieve progress is by being a Progressive.

Since the budget for the Chicago Olympics was around 5 billion dollars (probably short), Rio may have saved the federal tax payer 6 to 12 billion dollars in over run cost (that we can't afford). Thanks IOC and Rio.

And so many thought the first loser president would take home the gold. Well, like everything else he has his hands in, he is failing. He has a spending problem is afraid of the military and what to do. I mean,....what were you thinking? I mean you did read his book "faces of my father" didn't you. If he would have tried to sell Chicago, instead of bad mouthing the country, right after a Chicago honor student was beat and killed in the street, he might have at least gotten through the first round. Jimmy Hussein Obama Carter, see the parallel?

Obama and his wife should have stayed home and saved the jet fuel, limo expense, five star hotel bills, gourmet meals and Heaven only knows what else. Well, after re-thinking it, Obama and his wife should have gone - just not have come back. Kenya or Indonesia would have been nice. They would feel right at home.

All I can say is, if I was an American Olympic athlete, I would rather go any where other than Chicago. I would rather go somewhere I haven't been before, I can always go to Chicago on a bus.
