SC Candidate Raffles Off AK-47 At Campaign Rally

A candidate to be South Carolina's next National Guard leader skipped the fiery speeches for firepower, launching his campaign with what he called a "machine-gun social."

The Greenville News reports some 500 people came out to a shooting range Saturday for Republican Dean Allen's political rally. He wants to be the next adjutant general, the person who leads the state's National Guard.

Attendees paid $25 for barbecue, a clip of bullets for target practice and the chance to win a semiautomatic AK-47. Whoever wins the rifle will have to undergo a background check.

Allen says he is an Army veteran who wanted to celebrate Second Amendment rights. South Carolina is the only state that elects its adjutant general.

Those gangsters, thugs and crack dealers you are talking about will still get their hands on weapons. The only thing that would result in our "right to bear arms" being taken away, is that it would be easier for the gangsters, thugs and crack dealers to rob, murder, rape those Americans who are law abiding citizens. Do some research and find out the statistics of crimes committed by people who bought and registered their guns compaired to the ones who bought the off the streets. You ever hear the saying "guns dont kill people, people kill people"?

To anonymous:The drug dealers don't have to be there to be able to get their hands on any gun.One way one day that and many guns make it to the streets thank you very much.Yeah the person that wins the gun,one of his or her family member might be a drugdealer, thugs or gangmember who knows.Thats why these guns should be destroyed. You might feel different if your kid was killed by one of these guns that made it to the streets and in the hands of a drugdealer, thugs or gang member instead of being destroyed properly. How can lawinforcement fight crime when drugdealers, thugs or gangmembers have more powerful guns than they carry.Wihtout guns being on our streets there whouldn't be no armed robberies.

Bob, keeping in mind that gang members in Chicago just beat a honor roll student to dealth with sticks....did they have permits? Did anyone do mental status on the guys to see if they could tote sticks? Did they apply for a license to use sticks for deadly force if necessary? I am not even go to the concealed sticks laws, this should be enough for people to see how stupid this is. Remember, sticks kill people?, people kill with sticks, rocks, golf clubs, horses, cars, trucks, dogs, knives, scissors, box cutters,....get it?

PHONEJACK: Did you not read that a back ground check would be done prior to the person receiving the weapon? By the way the drug dealers and thug gang members wouldnt show up there. They are Democrats.

The real problem M cannot be solved by passing laws. The breakdown in the morals, stupidity and the I want what I want and I dont care who I have to hurt to get it mentality that the youth and many adults have is the real problem. The governement already tries to pass and passes far too many laws to protect us from our selves. For example why did an iron I picked up once have a warning Do not use iron on the cloths while wearing them. Why is it that if the company had of not put that warning on the iron the company would have been liable because someone was not smart enough to know not to do this. Its no different then lets blame the alchol for all the people that drink and drive. Or better yet lets get rid of silverware because some people dont know when to push away from the table. Some things are what they are and no amount of laws are going to change them. People will still rob and hurt others only law-abiding citizens wont be able to defend themselves with stricter gun laws.

BOB ... you are so correct, I wish that someone from our state would have done such a thing. What people fail to realize is that if someone has evil intent in there heart there is nothing that can be done as they will find a way. I would rather take my chances with a gunmen then a bomb.

I wish people would do a little research before shooting off their mouth! The rifle they are raffleing off is semi-automatic. It operates just like any other NON-MACHINEGUN in one pull of the trigger one shot! There are already enough gun laws on the books, just enforce the ones that are there! It is so easy to go after the gun and not the criminal using one. A car, baseball bat, glass bottle can be used to kill do you want to get rid of them with another law! Passing new gun laws will NOT make you any safer, criminals already have guns and ARE NOT going to give them up, would you have law abbiding citizens defenseless? I wish I had known about this I would have driven there just to support Mr. Allen's Political rally! Why is it the libs always go after the easy targets that have NO impact?

It's just another way a drug dealer or thug gang member getting their hands on it.This rifle should be destroyed,so it will not end up on our streets. There should be a law against this from happen.

The guy at VT used a handgun. And had the school officials done their job he could not have legally purchased them. Besides, didn't ya'll know it was illegal for him to have firearms on campus in the first place? And just so you will know. The 7.62x39 round that AK fires is a pretty weak cartridge.

About time, he's got my vote--BB-q and guns. People have forgotten what built this country and why it "USED" to be the #1 place to live. If a thug can break into a house or be shooting out the window of a car with an AK-47, then it is our right to be able to defend ourselves with equal (if not more) power.
