Man Accidentally Run Over By Paramedics

Authorities in St. Petersburg, Florida say a paramedic truck accidentally ran over the man it was on its way to help.

Police say dispatchers received a call Thursday afternoon about a person who was bleeding about a block away from the fire station. But as firefighters pulled out of the station, they ran the man over.

Police say the victim was apparently lying outside, just a couple feet from the garage doors. A police spokesman says it appears the firefighters got into the truck before the garage door opened and couldn't see the man as they drove forward.

Rescuers took the man to a nearby hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Now I can see something like this taken place at home when you back out or pull out of your garage but who would be looking at place like this. I can see some repercussion coming down on this now. One mishap such as this will bring down a world of hurt for all. Not only n FL but each and every state.

To Laura and Pull Over~ they have two people in the Squad when it leaves the station, sometimes 3, So no use in pulling over. The driver is supposed to drive and the passengers handle communications. I agree with Laura in that someone should look in front of the truck before moving. He who is driving is responsible for his load and anything around it. My prayers go out to the Family of this Victim and hope he has a speedy recovery also.

Laura: Seriously, they should pull over? So when they are on there way to help your family member who is not breathing, and they pull over 2 to 3 times to get information from dispatch... I'm sure you won't mind the 10 minute delay. Give me a break. Im sure the EMS drivers are alert, maybe the public should help out a little and get out the way. Yes, flashing lights and sirens mean move.

I can see how this could have happened. Those trucks are pretty high and it's impossible to see the ground right in front of them while you are sitting inside of it. But someone, as a safety procedure, should look in front/behind before its able to pull out. But on a side-note, I seen an ambulance just about run the person ahead of me off the road yesterday. I think the drivers of these vehicles need to concentrate more on the road and other drivers. If they need to use the phone, they should have to pull off the road just the same as anyone else. I hope the person injured has a speedy recovery.
