Police: Toddler Is Dead After Eight-Year-Old Brother Accidentally Shoots Her

Police say a 2-year-old Northern California girl is dead after her 8-year-old brother accidentally shot her.

Police say the boy was playing with the gun Wednesday afternoon at the family home in Vacaville when it discharged, shooting the toddler in the head.

The girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Vacaville police Lt. Craig Courtemanche says the children's parents were home at the time of the shooting. Both the parents and the boy were being questioned, with investigators hoping to determine how the boy got his hands on the weapon.

The girl's name has not been released.

I agree with all of you. The parents are very ignorant. Now because of their ignorantance one child is gone and another child will be having night mares for a very all time.

When is enough going to be enough?! How many more people need to get killed by friendly fire as a result of negligence?? Freak accidents happen, and it always seems like a bystander gets shot and killed 9 out of 10 times! That little girl did not have to die. The bullet could have hit the wall, the ceiling, gone through a mattress or window...but no, an innocent girl, someone's daughter, niece, granddaughter had to die and in this case because the parents FAILED to make sure the gun was out of reach from children. This is sad. Families that have guns (more power to you, defend your home & family), but for crying out loud PLEASE make sure your children never get a hold of them. Is it that hard?!?!?

Let's hope the 8 year old is removed from the custody of the stupid and ignorant parents (and I use the term loosely) who are responsible for this tragedy.
