15 Years For Man Who Bit Off Cop's Finger

A New York City man who bit off part of a New Jersey police officer's finger has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Thirty-year-old Rafael Pichardo was convicted in May on charges including aggravated assault, resisting arrest and making terroristic threats. The Staten Island resident was sentenced Thursday.

Prosecutors say he bit Atlantic City Officer Dean Dooley on the left index finger while being arrested during a disturbance in a nightclub at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in February 2007.

The officer has since returned to work.

Defense lawyer Peter Willis says his client plans an appeal.

Are you serious? 15 years for bitting a finger? Yet drug dealers and rapist are in and out of jail ! This is only b/c it was a cop. Had it been a civilian he would have had a slap on the wrist.

At the very least the judge should have ruled that he get all his teeth extracted with no local anesthesia, then make him work while in prison and pay restitution to the officer for pain and suffering. That would be justice!

Well, at least he's being punished. I don't understand how this man got 15 years for his crime but when you murder someone or abuse children the prison term is never long enough.
