Police: Serial Killer On Loose Near SC-NC Border

Authorities in South Carolina say they're looking for a serial killer they believe has shot four people to death within 10 miles of each other over the past six days.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says the latest victim was Stephen Tyler, age 48, who was shot to death at his furniture store in Gaffney around closing time Thursday. His daughter, age 15, was shot and badly injured.

Sheriff Bill Blanton said Friday that authorities have evidence linking the latest killing to the shooting deaths of an 83-year-old mother and her daughter on Wednesday and a 63-year-old peach farmer on Saturday.

He wouldn't detail how authorities made the link, but called the suspect a serial killer. Gaffney is about 50 miles west of Charlotte, N.C.

Previous Story:

A sheriff says the shooting deaths of a peach farmer and two women in a rural South Carolina county the past week have been linked to the same killer.

Cherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton says investigators made the link after finding an 83-year-old woman and her 50-year-old daughter bound and shot to death Thursday in their home near Gaffney, about 50 miles south of Charlotte, N.C.

The home isn't far from a house where peach farmer 63-year-old Kline Cash was shot to death Monday.

The sheriff says evidence makes it obvious that the killings are linked, but refused to give details.

Blanton didn't return several messages left for him or his deputies about a fourth killing reported in his county later Thursday.

He said earlier that "we are dealing with a dangerous person."

Too bad these serial killers don't target the thug criminals ruining our country. It's a shame innocent people are targeted.

This is very scary. The 15 yr old daughter... is she able to give a description? Right now, she's the only hope that the cops have in catching this guy. I sure hope they catch him before he takes naymore lives. Sometimes, I think that these crime shows on TV give crazy folks ideas.
