CDC Recalls 380,000 Pounds Of Beef

Federal health officials say at least 12 people have been hospitalized in connection with a possible E.coli outbreak in beef and two of them suffered kidney failure.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 23 people in nine states may have become ill after eating beef produced by JBS Swift Beef Co. of Greeley, Colorado.

The company recalled about 380,000 pounds of beef this week after some illnesses were reported and a government investigation showed a possible connection to the company's product. That recall expanded a June 24 recall of just over 41,000 pounds.

The CDC says health officials in several states investigating the strain of E. coli found that most ill persons had consumed ground beef, and many reported that it was undercooked.

THANKS WITN for letting us know. I am always checking for recalls. You all should make a tab on your page for recalls (if you don't already have one, i haven't seen one though).

WITN - thanks for the vague story! if you're going to post a story with such a serious subject, I think a little more info is in line. If you don't have it, at least give us a like of where we can find it. Which 9 states? What grocery stores?

The FDA is worthless, they let farmers process infected, half dead animals... what do you expect?

what grocery stores carried this product and are there numbers related to this recall? i just purchased 6 family packs to be cooked on saturday. i think the so called fdca health inspections/governmnent needs to be a lot more strict on how they grade these big facilities. there has been way to many recalls. so someone is not doing their jobs. the owner of these facilites needs to start being held responible for these recalls especially if the facility is not being cleaned properly. i agree with other writer, i guess we all need to have cow, pigs and chickens in our back yard so we can eat without the worry of getting sick.

so what company is it? who may have sold it? looks like we need to go back to having our own cows, chickens, pigs, etc. in order to eat and know exactly where it came from , etc.

It wasn't smart to consume under cooked ground beef. They still don't know if that was it.

That's real smart of the CDC. Now no one will be grilling hamburgers and steak for the fourth, simply because we DONT KNOW WHERE THE BEEF WENT. No pun intended.
