White House Confirms Medal Of Honor Mistake

The White House is confirming that President Barack Obama misspoke about a Medal of Honor winner coming home alive during comments at Fort Drum in upstate New York.

Addressing soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division on Thursday, Obama said one of their comrades was the first person he had awarded the Medal of Honor who wasn't receiving it posthumously. In fact, the soldier, Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti, was killed in action.

Obama spokesman Josh Earnest says the president misspoke. He noted that Obama paid tribute to Monti in remarks to troops in Afghanistan in March 2010. But Salvatore Giunta was the first living recipient of the medal among veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Earnest wouldn't confirm an ABC report that Obama had called Monti's family and apologized.

Why not even Barlow, Data Man, or Lavon could defend this. What a sign of total disrespect to the brave men and women who earned the CMH, especially those wh died doing it. This man should be totally ashamed, but of course he's not, after all he's "The Chosen One"

We are constantly reminded by the news media that our current president is the most intellegent person to ever hold that office. If it is true of his unparalleled mental capability, Why does he make so many stupid mistakes? Good oral communication skills and charisma-Yes. Good President and "smartest President ever"-No.

Lordy that diplomatic word "misspoke" is getting old. They say it like it softens the gravity of the situation, whatever it may be. God forbid he should just say, "I screwed up."

As a service member currently deployed on the tip of the spear, my first thoughts go to the soldier killed in action and his family. Though Obama screwed this totally up, we cannot forget the brave men and women serving this great country.

In 2012 elect a President who can think on his own without the use of a teleprompter. Anybody but Obama in 2012, please.
